Backed by Techstars and USC

More than $70 billion is sitting with state governments.

A few common life events explain most of it. Almost any financial asset can become unclaimed property once it goes dormant.

Where it comes from

Bank accounts

Forgotten checking and savings balances turned over by banks after dormancy.

Insurance proceeds

Life insurance benefits and policy refunds that never reached the beneficiary.

Stocks and bonds

Securities, dividends, and brokerage balances that fell out of contact.

Uncashed checks

Payroll, vendor, refund, and settlement checks that were never deposited.

Deposits and escrow

Utility deposits, rental deposits, and undisbursed escrow funds.

Who it happens to

People who moved

Deposits and final checks often fail to catch up across state lines.

Name changes

Marriage or a new legal name separates you from old accounts.

Heirs and families

Estates leave behind assets heirs never knew existed.

Former employees

Uncashed payroll and expenses from past jobs add up.

Six steps to your money.

Most claims take 3 to 6 months. We handle the paperwork and follow up with the state so you do not have to.

Your questions, answered

Common questions about recovery, monitoring, and the claim process.

How do you know I have unclaimed property?

We regularly search state databases and use proprietary data intelligence tools to identify unclaimed property. When we find property that matches your information, we reach out to help you recover it.

How much do your services cost?

There is no upfront cost to search or begin the process. If CollectRefund successfully recovers funds, a service fee applies based on the claim and applicable state requirements. The exact fee is disclosed before recovery is authorized.

How long does the process take?

The timeline varies by state and the complexity of your claim, but most claims are processed within 3-6 months. We handle all the paperwork and follow up with the state on your behalf to ensure the fastest possible resolution.

Is this legitimate? How do I know it’s not a scam?

We’re a BBB accredited business. You can verify your unclaimed property directly with your state’s unclaimed property office.

We never ask for upfront payments, and all our contracts are transparent and legally binding. We do not send wire transfer requests, gift card requests or verification deposits.

Can I recover the property myself?

Yes, you can always file a claim directly with your state at no cost. However, the process can be time-consuming and complex, requiring extensive paperwork and documentation. We handle everything for you, saving you time and ensuring your claim is filed correctly.

What states do you operate in?

We currently manage end-to-end recovery in seven states: California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Minnesota, Nebraska, and New York, with more states coming soon. Free monitoring covers all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Contact us to confirm if we can help with your specific claim.

What happens if the state denies my claim?

If a claim is denied, we’ll work with you to understand why and determine if there are additional steps we can take. In most cases, denials are due to missing documentation, which we can help you obtain and resubmit.

Do you guarantee that you’ll recover my money?

While we have a high success rate, we cannot guarantee recovery in every case. Each claim depends on state requirements, proper documentation, and verification processes. We’ll always be transparent about your claim’s likelihood of success.

What documentation will I need?

Most claims need government-issued photo ID and proof of connection to the reported address, such as an old bill or record. Some states also request a Social Security card or tax document for verification, and estate claims add probate or heirship paperwork. We tell you exactly what your specific claim requires before anything is filed.

Do I have to give you my Social Security number?

Not to start. Sensitive documents only come into play later, if a state requires them to verify a specific claim, and you’ll know exactly why before sharing anything.

What does monitoring cost?

Monitoring is free during launch. Customers who enroll during launch keep their current monitoring account, nationwide coverage, future matches, and current feature set free permanently.

Can I monitor my family members too?

Family monitoring, coming soon. Today each monitoring account covers one person’s names and address history. Family coverage is in development and will be announced when it is live.

How is my personal information protected?

CollectRefund encrypts personal information in transit and at rest. Personal information is retained only as long as necessary to provide services, maintain required records, and meet legal obligations. Users may request deletion by emailing info@collectrefunds.com.

Our recovery team can look at your situation and tell you what is realistic, before you commit to anything.
