What is unclaimed property?

Roughly 1 in 7 Americans has unclaimed property in their name. A few common life events explain most of it.

Where it comes from

A dormant bank account. A final paycheck never cashed. An insurance payout nobody claimed. A utility or rental deposit never returned. A dividend on shares somebody forgot they owned.

Why the state has it

When a company cannot locate the owner of an account or payment, state law requires it to turn the money over to the state after a dormancy period, usually 1 to 5 years. The state holds it in trust until the owner or their heirs come forward.

How long they hold it

Indefinitely. There is no deadline to claim and no statute of limitations. The state never owns the property. It only holds it in trust.

How it works

Most claims take 3 to 6 months. We handle the paperwork and follow up with the state so you don’t have to.

  1. 01

    We identify a possible claim

We search official state unclaimed property databases and identify property that may be connected to you.

  2. 02

    You authorize the recovery

Nothing is filed until you approve it. We disclose the exact fee in writing before you sign any agreement.

  3. 03

    We prepare the claim

We identify exactly what your claim needs, such as photo ID and proof of an old address, and help you gather it. Where notarization is required, we coordinate it through our nationwide notary network.

  4. 04

    You receive your funds

Once approved, the state issues payment directly to you. Our fee applies only after the state pays the claim.

Our fee

We work strictly on contingency. There is no upfront fee, retainer or processing charge, and if we don’t recover your money, you pay nothing.

Our rate complies with each state’s statutory cap on recovery-firm fees. For example, California Code of Civil Procedure §1582 caps recovery-firm fees at 10% of the claim amount. We disclose the exact rate in writing before you sign any agreement.

Official state searches and self-filing are always free. You can always file a claim directly with your state at no cost.

Your questions, answered

Is this legitimate? How do I know it’s not a scam?

We are a BBB accredited business. You can verify your unclaimed property directly with your state’s unclaimed property office.

We never ask for upfront payments, and all our contracts are transparent and legally binding. We do not ask for your Social Security number, bank account details or copies of identification until you have signed an agreement and we have a verified property match.

We do not send wire transfer requests, gift card requests or “verification deposits.” Any communication asking for those things is not from us.

How much do your services cost?

There is no upfront cost to search or begin the process. If we successfully recover funds, a service fee applies based on the claim and applicable state requirements.

The exact fee is disclosed in writing before you sign any agreement. If we don’t recover your money, you pay nothing.

How long does the process take?

The timeline varies by state and the complexity of your claim, but most claims are processed within 3 to 6 months.

We handle all the paperwork and follow up with the state on your behalf, with clear updates on what is needed and where things stand.

What documentation will I need?

Most claims need government-issued photo ID and proof of connection to the reported address, such as an old bill or record. Some states also request a Social Security card or tax document for verification, and estate claims add probate or heirship paperwork.

We tell you exactly what your specific claim requires before anything is filed.

What happens if the state denies my claim?

We work with you to understand why and determine if there are additional steps we can take. In most cases, denials are due to missing documentation, which we can help you obtain and resubmit.

If we don’t recover your money, you pay nothing.
